Accessibility Interface
Preface
Arcade accessibility remains a challenge. Creating a "one-size-fits-all" solution for accessibility is incredibly difficult for both developers and players. This proposal introduces a simple, scalable approach using QR codes and JSON configurations.
Summary
The idea of this Accessibility Interface is to provide a standard configuration file that stores accessibility settings as a QR code. This system benefits both players and developers by offering flexibility and ease of use.
- Players approach an arcade machine equipped with a QR code reader and scanner.
- Players scan the machine's QR code, which:
- Directs them to an accessibility questionnaire.
- Pre-fills certain flags relevant to the machine's supported settings.
- Players fill out their accessibility needs via the questionnaire.
- A QR code is generated containing the accessibility settings in JSON format.
- The player scans this QR code into the arcade machine, which:
- Loads the settings from the JSON file.
- Allows developers to implement any number of accessibility options as per standards.
- Pressing the arcade button without a QR code resets the settings to default.
